Spyderco Paramilitary 3 Review - An Amazing Pocket Knife!

Spyderco Paramilitary 3 Review

The Spyderco Paramilitary 3 is a very cool pocket knife. It’s actually a smaller version of the Paramilitary 2 (which is already a smaller version of the Spyderco Military model)...

And in this Spyderco Paramilitary 3 review, we’re going to go over all the major features for you. Questions like ‘what is the blade steel on the Para 3?’ and ‘what locking mechanism does the Paramilitary 3 use?’ will be answered…

And in the end, you’ll have a good idea of all the benefits that this knife has to offer. We’ll start by describing the locking mechanism used on the Para 3...

Locking Mechanism On The Spyderco Paramilitary 3...

The Spyderco Paramilitary 3 has a really cool locking mechanism. It’s called the Compression Lock, and it's a locking system that was designed and patented by Spyderco…

It’s a very strong system, and it allows you to deploy the blade on the Para 3 very smoothly too. It works by utilizing a leaf-like spring that splits away from the liner…

The spring then wedges against a ramp on the tang of the blade and an anvil or stop pin…

All that leads to a really solid lock up when the blade is out, and because of that, you’ll usually find the Compression Lock on a number of Spyderco’s more high-end knife designs…

So all that said, it's a fantastic locking mechanism.

Blade Steel On The Spyderco Paramilitary 3...

The Spyderco Paramilitary 3 can be found in a number of different blade steels, but 2 of the most common are CPM S30V and CPM S110V…

CPM S30V is a fantastic blade steel. It takes a fine edge, and it holds its edge for a long time and a lot of use…

It also resists rust and corrosion really well, and it does take too much time and effort to sharpen it when you eventually wear down the edge on your Para 3…

It’s a great knife steel, and it will serve well in pretty much any scenario a pocket knife is being used…

Now CPM S110V is pretty much as good as you can get when it comes to blade steel. It takes a very fine edge, and it holds that edge for what seems like forever…

It also resists corrosion extremely well, but there are a couple of negatives when it comes to CPM S110V

The first negative is that it's extremely expensive, so the cost of your Paramilitary 3 will go up, and the second is that it is very tedious and difficult to sharpen…

Luckily, you won’t have to sharpen it too much though because it's also extremely difficult to wear down the edge…

In the end, both of these blade steels are amazing, and it just depends on the price you’re willing to pay for the knife because the S110V will cost you a bit more money.

The Size Of The Spyderco Para 3...

Like I mentioned earlier, the Paramilitary 3 is a smaller version of the Paramilitary 2 (and the Spyderco Military). So it's a fairly compact knife that is designed to be an everyday carry knife…

The blade on the Para 3 is around 2.95 inches long, and the handle is 4.29 inches long. So the overall length of the Paramilitary 3 is 7.24 inches long when the blade is deployed…

It's a fairly handy size that is comfortable to carry around in your pocket, but at the same time, it's big enough to handle some pretty tough cutting tasks (much like the Chaparral).

The Handle Material Of The Paramilitary 3...

Like it’s bigger brothers the Para 2 and the Military model, the Paramilitary 3 has a textured G-10 handle…

G-10 is a fantastic handle material. It’s extremely comfortable to hold in your hand, and the texturing gives you a really solid grip on the knife when you’re using it to cut…

It’s also a very durable material, and it's also not as heavy as some other common handle materials that are used.

The Pocket Clip On The Spyderco Para 3...

The pocket clip on the Paramilitary 3 is completely adjustable. You can set the clip up for tip up carry or tip down carry, and you can put the clip on either side of the knife…

So no matter if you prefer tip up or tip down carry or if you are left-handed or right-handed, you can set the Para 3 up for any carry position you prefer.

Spyderco Paramilitary 3 Review - Conclusion…

So in the end, I think the Paramilitary 3 is a great pocket knife for several reasons. It has a really cool locking mechanism that is very strong and very smooth…

It comes in two amazing types of blade steel. It’s a compact size which makes it very comfortable to carry. It has a comfortable and strong handle material…

And it has a fully adjustable pocket clip.
