Spyderco Chaparral Review - One Of The Best Pocket Knives Out There!

spyderco chaparral review

The Chaparral is a really cool knife design from Spyderco…

It’s compact, and it functions very well as an EDC pocket knife. And in this Spyderco Chaparral review, we’re going to go over all of the important features that make this knife great…

We’ll start by taking a look at the locking mechanism...

Locking Mechanism On The Spyderco Chaparral...

The locking mechanism on the Spyderco Chaparral is the Back Lock. The Back Lock is actually a very common locking system not just for Spyderco but for many knife manufacturers…

The reasons why it’s such a common system are that it’s simple, it’s easy to operate, and it’s strong. It works by using a rocker arm with a lug on the end of it…

The rocker arm pivots and the lug engages with a notch that’s found in the tang of the blade. The result is a very strong lock up, and on the Chaparral the deployment of the blade is very smooth.

Blade Steel On The Chaparral...

The blade steel on the Chaparral is CTS XHP which is a fantastic knife steel for several reasons. First of all, it does a great job at resisting rust and corrosion…

It also takes a fine edge, and it will hold that edge for a long time and through a lot of use. And in addition to that, it's not too tedious or difficult to resharpen when the edge does eventually wear down.

So in the end, it's a great blade steel, and it's what you should expect on a more high-end Spyderco.

Size Of The Spyderco Chaparral...

The Spyderco Chaparral is a fairly compact pocket knife. The blade is 2.80 inches long and the handle is 3.60 inches long…

So when the blade is deployed on the Chaparral the overall length is around 6.40 inches long. So like I said, the Chaparral is a fairly small and compact knife (like the Para 3), but it’s still has a lot of cutting potential…

That makes it a wonderful choice for an EDC knife because you carry it around comfortably in your pocket all day, and still have a knife that cuts really well.

Handle Materials On The Spyderco Chaparral...

The Chaparral can be had in a number of different handle materials including carbon fiber, G-10, and fiberglass reinforced nylon…

The Carbon fiber handles are great because they’re extremely strong but also extremely lightweight at the same time…

They’re also very comfortable in your hand, and they look very sleek. The G-10 handles are also very strong and very comfortable to hold in your hand…

They feel great and give you a huge amount of traction when you’re using the knife. Last, the Fiberglass reinforced nylon grips are ultra lightweight…

They’re also the least expensive which will help you keep the price down when you’re buying your knife.

Pocket Clip On The Chaparral...

The pocket clip on the Spyderco Chaparral gives you a fair amount of adjustability…

It is a wire style clip, which helps keep the weight down on the knife, and it sets you up for tip up carry only. Tip down carry is not an option with the Chaparral, which is kind of a bummer, but it’s not too big a deal…

You can switch the clip to either side of the knife which is very important because it allows you to set the knife up for left-handed or right-handed carry…

And overall it’s a very comfortable knife to carry around in your pocket all day long.

Spyderco Chaparral Review - Conclusion…

In the end, I think the Chaparral is a fantastic offering from Spyderco. I mean, it has a very solid locking mechanism. The blade steel is very high quality….

It’s a very compact size so it's comfortable to carry all day, handle gives you a fair amount of traction and feels great in your hand. And the pocket clip is functional and adjustable. I think it's a great knife for anyone looking to up their EDC game…

Now if you want even more information about the Chaparral go to knifetrackers.com and you’ll see how it stacks up against another very popular knife design from Spyderco…

I hope you enjoyed the review! See ya later!
